The Challenge: Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Company (ACWR), in need of maintaining its mechanical shop facility in Candor, NC
Project Approach: ACWR retrofitted a 90K sq ft manufacturing building into a rail served mechanical shop facility in Candor, NC:
►Construction of five tracks with capacity for 20-26 cars
►Construction of pit for routine servicing
►Addition of industrial fans, LED lighting and other shop facility enhancements
►Routine cleaning of restrooms and floors
►Establishment of mobile fuel pad location
►Established connection to national rail network
►Established racking system for parts and materials
►Maintain and utilize forklifts with extended reach capabilities
►Network of mobile and overhead cranes used to increase safety and proficiency during repairs
►Ongoing facility upkeep and maintenance
Outcomes:
►Converted a non-rail served building into a state of the art facility
►Capable of performing maintenance, repair, overhaul of both passenger cars and locomotives
