The Challenge: Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Company (ACWR), a regional railroad company in North Carolina in need of building a passenger car fleet for corporate events.
Project Approach: ACWR mechanical crew at ACWR Shop in Candor, NC performed refurbishment for 12 passenger cars
►UP Dome Car – Amtrak PC-2, rebuild & refurbishment of electrical and mechanical, COT&S, design & build car interior for lounge area, kitchen, and bedrooms
►San Marino – PC-2A, COT&S, paint & body work including sanding, priming, painting, lettering and decal
►SP Airslie – PC-2A, truck overhaul
►9 other passenger cars refurbished
►Procurement and maintenance of $957K of parts inventory
►40 year overhaul
►Modifications to car configuration in progress
►1200 Manhours out of 2500 to completion
Outcomes:
►Utilize corporate cars for economic development activities: NCEDP Economic Development (2013), Duke Energy (2014), US Open in Pinehurst (2014), Southeast Partnership Familiarization Site Tour (2015), and other economic development related events
